Hello Cabbagetowners!

Hello Cabbagetowners and friends of Cabbagetown.

We have some great events for you to attend next week and it all starts with getting you outside to enjoy this fine weather.

There is lots to enjoy right here in Cabbagetown and around our fine city.
Art shows, yard sales, garden tours, wine tasting, farmer's markets and more. For details, check out this weekly guide  compiled by KENDALL & Co. http://kendallandco.ca/fyi/fun/ your design destination in the heart of Cabbagetown.

With one of the best bicycle shops in town (http://www.cycle-solutions.com) and a loyal following of cyclists at our local coffee hangout (http://jetfuelcoffee.com), KENDALL & Co. has the ultimate design for these sports enthusiasts. Their new multi-candle holder is made from recycled old bicycle parts! Each is uniquely different. Makes for a great Father's Day gift (June 17th).
Ride your Bixi bike over to KENDALL & Co. and peddle home one of these before they are sold out.

And while you're at KENDALL & Co. make sure to check out the Re-purposed Flip-Flop Doormats.
Back by popular demand, these excess rubber sandals are cut into colourful bits and refashioned together into a 30" L x 20" W doormat. This eco-smart design is great for indoors and out, home or cottage.
KENDALL & Co. 227 Carlton St.

Bring out these sandals because summer is coming!

And just in time for that summer fresh feeling of a picnic in the park, The Epicure Shop encourages you to try their very own Cabbage Rolls (2 for $6) and Shepherd's Pie (2 for $5)
Or try their delicious salads, pates, cheeses and desserts.
Perfect for a picnic or a tasty mid-day treat.

Just a reminder that the Cabbagetown Residents Association invites you to their Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for Tuesday, May 29th.

Where: This year's AGM will be hosted at Winchester Bar & Kitchen.
When: Tuesday, May 29th at 7:30pm.
What: They will be hosting a wine event in partnership with Lifford Wine Agency - should be great fun!
Cost: The wine tasting is free for members and $5 for non-members.

Any questions, email them at info@cabbagetowner.com

Hope to see you there!

In sad news, the Cabbagetown Community Arts Centre (CCAC) is now in the position of having to close their doors due to budget restraints.

The CCAC is a wonderful opportunity for children of all ages to learn guitar, singing, piano, violin, and visual arts. It serves children who might not have the means to do so and we invite you to attend their Vegetable Garden of Art Fundraiser on Friday, June 1st from 5 - 7pm.

We hope to see you there, it'll be lots of fun for children of all ages.

Next Sunday is the Sixth Annual Cabbagetown Preservation Association (CPA) Garden Tour.

The "Hidden Gardens and Privates Spaces" tour takes place on Sunday, June 3 from 10am - 3pm when ten gardens will be showcased.

This self-guided tour through the streets of the Cabbagetown Heritage Conservation District of downtown Toronto brings visitors along quiet back lanes or tree-lined streets to hidden alcoves of greenery. Visit unique urban gardens from the quaint to the quirky. Proud gardeners will be on site to answer questions about the creative use of small spaces, the challenges of urban wildlife, and choices of plants and other materials.

One of three outdoor rooms in the garden of 297 Carlton Street on the 2011 Hidden Gardens and Private Spaces tour.

Use the map on your ticket as well as balloon bouquets at garden entrances as guides as you stroll through our charming neighbourhood. Some gardens can only be entered from back lanes with intriguing names such as Yen, Magic, Gordon Sinclair or Nuthatch.

20 Wellesley Avenue's garden complete with a recreation of Kathmandu's Kumari palace window as a focal point.

Let your imagination take you back to the turn of the last century when these lanes were used by delivery carts filled with ice, coal, bread or milk. Along the way, also note some community gardens such as Prospect and Parliament, Winchester and Parliament and Sword street - the boulevard gardens.

Entering the garden at 40 Gifford Street.

The latest news is that this year, Michael Hepburn of Hepburn Landscape Contractors will be our guest gardening expert to answer questions about gardens and garden design.

A restful oasis is part of the garden at 89 Winchester Street.

Tickets are $15 and you can pick up yours at the following ticket vendors or online at www.cabbagetownpa.ca
  • Bill's Garden and Design - 903 Pape Avenue, 416 466 8283
  • Mi Casa - 238 Carlton Street, 416 929 1913

A Royal Visit

"In conjunction with Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, HRH The Prince of Wales will be visiting UforChange May 22nd as part of his official visit to Toronto.

Twenty-one years ago, The Prince of Wales started a UK program called The Prince's Seeing is Believing (PSiB) with this main objective in mind: to bring together business leaders with disadvantaged communities in the hopes that the later group would bring a clearer understanding of social issues and inspire them to play a role in the recovery. Prince’s Charities Canada has launched a series of PSiB programs in Toronto in partnership with Canadian Business for Social Responsibility and The Wellesley Institute.

UforChange is excited to be part of the Canadian version of this amazing legacy. In anticipation of his arrival, the UforChange family would like to extend a warm welcome to HRH The Prince of Wales. UforChange is located on 517 Parliament and we are an arts organization that deals with newcomer and St. James Town youth ages 16-29.

This is a private event but the public is welcome to surround UforChange to get a glimpse of HRH The Prince of Wales. We would love Cabbagetown to show their support for UforChange."

One caters to the real estate market by offering a line of real estate marketing tools called featuredPLUS.
