Riverside Historical Walk

Saturday, August 17th at 2:00pm take a free Historical Walk in Riverside. Join us in exploring the Historic part of Queen Street East between the DVP and just past Degrassi. Riverside Toronto has a rich history dating back to the late 1700s. The Queen Street Bridge over the Don River was one of the few crossings, making Queen Street the main East-West artery of Toronto. Get the details on some of the oldest buildings in Toronto to insider info on local anecdotes that make the Riverside a district steeped in stories. Led by Riverside Aficionado, Ron Fletcher -   former Riverside BIA Chair, one of the original founders of the Riverdale Historical Society, Heritage Toronto guide, Jane’s Walk walk leader, and ‘Over the Don’ author.
Ron Fletcher by the 2nd largest trophy in the world housed in the Royal Canadian Curling Club, in Riverside.
Photo taken by, Riverdale Historical Society.
Meet us at the entrance of the Ralph Thornton Centre - a building celebrating its 100th anniversary this year – space is limited, so please register for a spot.

8th Annual Kultura Filipino Arts Festival

The 8th Annual KULTURA Filipino Arts Festival celebrates Filipino culture and community through music, dance, theatre, visual arts, food and much more. As part of KULTURA and Toronto Artscape Inc.'s Outdoor Arts Program, Toronto-based Filipino artists, Julius Poncelet Manupul, Kristina Guison, and Tim Manalo will collaborate with Regent Park, Cabbagetown and the surrounding neighbourdhoos to lead in Bayanihan: An Interactive Art Installation at Daniels Spectrum. The interactive art installation will bring these artists together with the local community to create a life-sized woven bahay kubo - a Filipino hut. The project hopes to embody the spirit of community in creating a collective piece, but also in highlighting the universality of the theme of home in different cultural backgrounds. As part of the installation, participants will unearth their personal stories of home through paint and merge with others to discover the power of the community's greater narrative.

Event name: 8th Annual KULTURA Filipino Arts Festival
Date: Wednesday, August 7, 2013
Location: Daniel Spectrum
Address: 585 Dundas St. East
Admission fee: Free
Time: 11 AM - 7 PM
What: Join Toronto-based Filipino artists: Julius Poncelet Manupul, Kristina Guison, and Tim Manalo, and Regent Park, Cabbagetown and the surrounding neighbourhoods as they work together to create a life-sized woven bahay kubo - a Filipino hut. Celebrate the spirit of community and home as you unearth your personal stories of home through paint and merge with others to discover the power of the community's greater narrative.
