Shop Local, Give Local - Cabbagetown

SHOP LOCAL, GIVE LOCAL
CABBAGETOWN

Thanks to our volunteers for a successful Neighbourhood Tree Lighting and Carolling night, last Friday! Lots of awesome kids brought their parents for a great time decorating the neighbourhood tree, and singing along with Danny Marks from JazzFM.91 and friends.

Have a look at the fantastic work our neighbours and kids did to decorate the tree! The tree stands at the corner of Parliament & Carlton, right beside the TD Parliament St branch.

Thanks everyone who joined in for a fun evening, and a special Thank You to everyone who donated food items!! Our top volunteer, Scott, dropped off the items to our local neighbourhood daily food bank at St Luke's United Church, at Carlton/Sherbourne.

We can't wait to see you all again!

THIS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14TH
@NATIVE WOMEN'S RESOURCE CENTRE OF TORONTO

....IT'S WINTER SOLSTICE!!

The Native Women's Resource Centre of Toronto is located in Old Cabbagetown and works tirelessly year round to deliver programs and services to First Nations, Inuit and Metis women and children. December 14th is a particularly special day at the Centre – it is the day that we celebrate the Winter Solstice. Every year, we gather together to honour family and embrace the spirit of giving. This year we are planning a day-long event which will include arts and crafts, gifts, performances and of course, a big feast.

We are a very small, grass-roots level charity that supports over 600 Aboriginal women and their children. Recently, the Native Women’s Resource Centre won the 2012 City of Toronto’s Aboriginal Affairs Award and Toronto Community Foundation’s prestigious 2012 Vital Peoples Grant.

Our Winter Solstice on December 14th will be a magical day. We do not get any funding to host this event but our staff and volunteers are working day in and day out to make sure that our Winter Solstice will be a warm and festive place for Aboriginal women and their children in the GTA.

Spread the word! Getting media coverage on this special day would make it even more special!
