WE'RE BACK

Hello Cabbagetown and Happy 2013!

We at the BIA want to thank every one for your continued support and interaction with us online. We will be launching fresh and exciting content both on our weekly blog and website soon so stay tuned for that later this month.

Our office is now open for business as usual at 237 Carlton St. - please call or email if you would like to book an appointment with us, Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm.

We are busily working at planning our community events and promotions for the year, and of course, the Cabbagetown Festival of Arts on September 7th & 8th, 2013.

Our upcoming events include a MPAC Tax Clinic for BIA Members on February 11, 2013 at 6pm and some sweet Valentine’s Day treats throughout February.

The new year has brought us renewed energy and a renovated office and we cannot wait to share our enthusiastic return to the Cabbagetown BIA with you!

We are a dynamic duo with experience in various backgrounds and practices.

We are happy to meet you and look forward to continue working with you throughout the year!

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM BRENDA AT THE CABBAGETOWN YOUTH CENTRE:

Tyler Routledge

On Monday January 14th, 2013 one of Cabbagetown’s families suffered a devastating loss. Tyler Routledge passed away at home Monday morning as his dad William Routledge and mom Amanda Hynes were preparing their family to start their day.

Will and Amanda were loving parents to both of their children, sons Tyler and Ryan. They have both been active members of the Cabbagetown community. Amanda and her brother, one of Will’s best friends, have participated in CYC programs for years. Will has attended CYC programs since he was 15 years old, participating in summer programs, basketball, volleyball and hockey. Will was part of the CYC Celebrating Youth Program team and co-organized a successful 3 on 3 basketball tournament in the summer; he has been an After-Four program instructor, summer program instructor and soccer league coach. Most members of the Cabbagetown community will know Will and Amanda as the loving mother and father you see pushing their two young boys in their stroller to the CYC and the Cabbagetwown Cooperative Nursery School or visiting Riverdale Farm, Menagerie Pet Store and community businesses to run errands.

Lindsay Marshall, Will’s younger sister and aunt to Tyler and Ryan has attended the CYC since she was 10 years old, participating in dance, Performing Arts, basketball and summer programs until she became a youth volunteer and is now one of the regular staff. Lindsay feels a strong connection to the CYC and calls the organization “her home”. Lindsay had the honour of representing the CYC as one of the Olympic Torch bearer in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Torch Relay. Lindsay has been a huge support to her brother Will and Amanda since this shocking tragedy happened Monday and has dedicated all of her time to help as they manage with this sudden change.

A fund will be set up to allow family, friends and members of the Cabbagetown community to provide financial support to the family. Details to follow.
