Clean-Up Cabbagetown

Hello Friends of Cabbagetown,

Today's the DAY - COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP DAY

Three locations have been identified for our community clean-up day happening on Saturday, April 20, 2013.

1. The Cabbagetown BIA will be distributing garbage bags to all our member businesses on Friday, April 19th so that you can clean your back areas, as well as store fronts in the evening or Saturday morning.

DROP-OFF your filled garbage bags at:

A) The Beer Store parking lot at 227 Gerrard St. East (at the corner of Gerrard/ Seaton)

OR

B) 491 Parliament St. (at the South-East corner of Parliament/Carlton).

Volunteers will meet at the Cabbagetown BIA Office (237 Carlton St.) at noon on Saturday, April 20th, 2013.

2. Cabbagetown South Residents Association is also hosting a clean-up crew, meeting at 349 Ontario St. (Central Neighbourhood House) at 10am on Saturday, April 20, 2013

3. The Winchester Community Garden Team is meeting at Winchester Square Park, from noon-2pm on Saturday, April 20, 2013 to clean-up the green space and do some Spring planting.
If you wish to volunteer for any of the organizations hosting the community clean-up day, please email us with your contact information and time availability.

Aberdeen Avenue Residents Group (AARG) is hosting a street clean up day from 10 AM - 12 Noon. We'll have litter bags from the city (kindly picked up from City Hall by Steve Noble) so please bring your gloves, broom, dust pan or small shovel to tidy up the lane ways and public spaces and  make our newly paved street sparkle.

AARG's clean up is registered with the city and our designated drop off spot is Winchester Square with a deadline of 2 PM. This is also the day we will be preparing the boxes and doing early planting in the Winchester Square Community Garden from 12 Noon - 2 PM. All are welcome to join in the fun.

Councillor Pam McConnell's Environment Day is Saturday April 27 from 10 AM - 2 PM in Lower Sherbourne Park - see the attached flyer for more information. It's a great opportunity to get rid of batteries, unused paint, computer equipment, etc. If you don't have a vehicle or just have a small amount, let me know and we'll plan a drop together.

PS: Keep in Mind the City will only take litter from our designated pick up location, not old unwanted furniture, tires, old building materials etc.  If you have items like this please check the links below. Some items can be placed next to your garbage bin for regular pick-up while others require a 311 call to schedule a pick-up time. We will be seeking Volunteers for our Cabbagetown Festival of the Arts this summer. You may sign your organization up to participate or attend to sign-up to volunteer for numerous events and organizations.

A message from Solomon, a great volunteer helping organize the event:
The City Youth Council of Toronto (CYCTO) is a chapter of the City Youth Councils of Canada which is an organization focused on empowering youth to influence public policy, facilitate in community development, and learn more about the municipal government through participation. The CYCTO helps youth develop a greater sense of purpose and responsibility, informs them about what is happening in their city, and promotes the valuable contributions they make to the vitality of Toronto’s communities.

City of Toronto Youth Council is proud to host Global Youth Service Day- Volunteer Fair.
The CYCTO is the first ever elected youth council in North America. We have our roots at City Hall, we have an elected representative in every ward, and our mandate is to serve the 330,000 youth in the GTA.
